Validation of audiovisual educational gerontotechnology content for elderly people with chest pain
Abstract
Purpose Technologies targeted at health education for elderly people are important in the face of the challenges of aging. The use of information and communication technologies must consider the needs and expectations of the elderly, improving their quality of life and facilitating social inclusion (PAHO, 2023). Considering chest pain one of the most frequent complaints in urgent and emergency services (Miranda; Rampalliotti, 2019), the objective of the study was to validate the content of an audiovisual educational gerontotechnology related to the care of elderly people complaining of chest pain in the urgency and emergency service. Method Methodological research developed in southern Brazil to develop audiovisual educational gerontotechnology, in which the stage presented corresponds to the content validation of the gerontotechnology script, prepared based on an integrative literature review. The inclusion criteria for expert judges were: being a professional nurse, with expertise in the area of gerontology and/or urgency and emergency, and meeting at least one characteristic of two requirements, such as: professional experience, authority on the subject, skill in the type of study, qualification in a specific test, according to Jasper (1994). It was an exclusion criterion to partially respond to the questionnaire. Recruitment was carried out by searching for teaching staff from the Undergraduate Nursing courses with the best evaluation by the Brazilian Ministry of Education, considering the national territory. 103 professionals were invited, however, the final sample consisted of 20 participants. The invitation letter was sent via email; in addition, the Free and Informed Consent Form approved by the local Ethics Committee; the questionnaire to characterize the profile of expert judges; the video script; and the structured questionnaire for content validation, in electronic format (Google Forms®) (Figure 1). The adapted health content validation instrument (Leite, et al, 2018) contained 12 questions related to the proposed gerontotechnology, with space for suggestions and criticisms. A Likert-type scale was used, renamed to: 1- completely disagree, 2- partially disagree, 3- partially agree and 4- totally agree. Results and Discussion The majority of participants were female (n=19; 95%), aged between 30 and 40 years old (n=18; 90%), who work professionally in the southern region of the country (n=18; 90%) and had specialization (n=18; 90%). As for professional practice, the hospital area predominated (n=17; 85%), with experience in urgency and emergency (n=15; 75%), having worked in this specialty for more than five years (n=13; 65%). The calculation of the Content Validity Index resulted in a final average of 0.92. Considering the minimum acceptable value of 0.80, the educational gerontotechnology script was considered adequate and validated. All of the judges' suggestions were accepted, aiming to make educational gerontotechnology more accessible to the target audience.
