Abstract

Purpose: Training with virtual/augmented reality is an emerging technology that leads to physical, social, and psychological well-being in older adults (Lee et al., 2019). Few studies on usability evaluation indicators for a rehabilitation exercise enhancement device using cognitive-physical complex intervention have been studied. This study aimed to develop usability evaluation scenarios and indicators for a rehabilitation exercise enhancement device using cognitive-physical complex intervention among elderly (i.e., virtual/augmented reality and dual-task training). The usability evaluation indicators were primarily to assess issues in the usability of the product in both older adults and sports/exercise specialists for health using the device. Methods: Delphi method has been applied to unify the usability evaluation indicators in the rehabilitation exercise enhancement device using cognitive-physical complex intervention (Robles et al., 2020). A total of 131 items were identified through the literature review. Developers of the device also checked the scenario and the indicator. Then, the Delphi method was applied, including gathering information regarding the consensus of experts’ opinions on the usability evaluation indicator (Figure 1). The experts are composed of five community networking exports, including an older adult, two experts in engineering, and two specialists in health management, including exercise and platform. Results and Discussion: A total of 131 items (i.e., 60 items for older adults and 71 items for sports/exercise specialists for health) were identified through the literature review. The experts agreed on the first of the six items. Fifteen items for older adults and 20 items for sports/exercise specialists for health were disagreed upon the items or commented for modification. Based on the experts' opinions, a total of 35 items were updated. Developing the usability scenario and indicator for the rehabilitation exercise enhancement device using cognitive-physical complex intervention was helpful for both older adults and sports/exercise specialists for health to derive problems using the device. Based on the developed usability scenario and indicator, further study regarding usability evaluation with older adults and sports/exercise specialists is required.
