Dementia in social media: Content Analysis of YouTube Videos

Abstract


Purpose To evaluate the video features and video content features of the dementia-related videos published on the YouTube social media platform. Method Analysis were conducted using the video content analysis method using a directed and summative approach to qualitative content analysis. Results and Discussion The video features and descriptive statistics of the video content features of the 100 most watched videos on the YouTube platform related to dementia were obtained. Analyzed video features; It includes the title of the video, the publication date of the video, the duration of the video, the number of views of the video, the number of likes of the video, the number of dislikes of the video and the number of comments of the video. Video content features: the gender of the speakers, the roles of the speakers, the source of the video, the format of the video, the types of dementia mentioned, the actionable information, the information mentioned in the video content, the informational warning content and the target audience characteristics.  It has been concluded that YouTube video content analysis studies make various contributions to the reliability of video contents, the YouTube platform is a promising and valuable tool in terms of public health, YouTube contributes to the field of health education, and the number of video content analysis studies that need to be carried out in this field should be increased.
